Welcome to the Newtown Community Café website!
The community café currently one Sunday each month providing a space for local activists, community members, and anyone interested in the various Free Workshops we offer. Sometimes on the following Monday we serve food for those at the Nunnery Bike Workshop. You can see what’s in store for the next one by looking at the Blog section.
—————-!!!!!!! The community cafe was damaged by storms, the roof blown off, and everything saturated. But we had a working bee. We fixed up most of the roof and sorted out the furniture. We made better storage for the kitchen stuff. We enjoyed chai and pumpkin bread. Yay for us…
However the second tarp still needs to be put up, and after a big party at the nunnery things got left out in the rain, including the PA! We need to have a meeting to get the next cafe organised———-
What kind of food do you serve?
The vegan food is a range of sweet treats to savory delights that will water in your mouth and make you shout “Damn sucka! This stuff is good!”
Umm and how much is the food?
That’s the beauty of the entire operation. It’s all by donation and your money goes directly back into keeping the community café running happily. Thanks for all the support so far it’s been really great.
How do I get there?
The community café is located at 40 Forbes Street and you can find a map here or on the Bikely website (it’s the same location at the Nunnery Bike Workshop on that map). Come around to the backyard through either alley entrance and join us for some Chai Tea, workshops and treats.
Did you say free workshops?
Yep. Every week that the community café is open we provide Free Workshops that change as the wind blows. Come check out any of the workshops that interest you and learn more about a wide range of fantastic topics.
Hope to see you all there!
